Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) tend to be a very hot topic in today’s world. Often when DE&I is mentioned the focus is typically through a human resources lens rather than evaluating the effects that it can have on our safety management systems. Ultimately, when you evaluate the lack of DE&I within a safety management system there can be a myriad of gaps that may arise because an effective system can only truly be successful when all parties are involved. It is apparent to many professionals that safety management systems are driven by federal regulations and, at times, certifications. In this presentation, we will discuss bridging the gap between DE&I and safety management systems and what it means to unleash that power.
