  • (November 17 | 11:00 pm – 1:00 pm) Legionella spp., Re-occupancy of buildings, & facility water system safety
    • This presentation is a shortened version of previous seminars offered by the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) and its training provider, OAI, Inc.  The training will focus on conditions that amplify Legionella growth and methods of water management to reduce risk for Legionnaires’ Disease.  

    • This presentation aligns with CDC guidelines and industry standards (ASHRAE 188) on managing risk from Legionella bacteria. The training will be conducted by Salvatore Cali, MPH, CIH, an experienced instructor and industrial hygienist with extensive field experience in indoor air quality issues. CDPH surveillance information is included that provides additional insight into cases that were reported in Chicago during summer, 2021.  

    • Learning Objectives:
      • Review current information about Legionnaire’s Disease cases in Chicago, Summer 2021
      • Identify existing & potential health-related water system concerns due to extended vacancies in facilities
      • Describe moisture-, water-, and plumbing related health issues (especially Legionella) & some controls
      • Solicit discussion from class participants about their facilities’ practices for mitigation of health issues identified above
      • Provide resources for learning about & developing water system management plans
